My name is Cássio Martins, and I am a Shiba Inu breeder in Brazil, leading the Instituto Cinófilo Prodigus Canis.

My journey in the dog world began in 2000 and gradually became focused on the study, preservation, and deeper understanding of the authentic Japanese Shiba Inu. My work goes beyond breeding dogs, I study pedigrees, genetics, structure, temperament, health, breed type, and the breeding philosophy developed and preserved in Japan.

I have traveled to Japan several times, visited breeders, met important dogs, and attended NIPPO shows. These experiences have been essential in helping me understand the expression, type, balance, and qualities valued by Japanese breeders and judges.

I am a NIPPO member, actively involved in the Brazilian dog world, and currently in the final stages of becoming an FCI Group 5 judge.

My breeding program has strong influence from important Japanese kennels such as Sanuki Mizumotosou, Ryukyu Uruma, Sapporo Kagasou, Hirosesou, and Bangaichisou, as well as Shun'you Kensha from Spain and other bloodlines developed in Russia.

I am particularly interested in old Japanese bloodlines and in understanding what each family has contributed through generations. For me, a pedigree is not simply a list of names, but the genetic and phenotypic history behind each dog.

My goal is not simply to produce puppies or show winners. I aim to develop a long-term breeding program based on careful selection, pedigree research, health, temperament, and preservation of the true Japanese Shiba Inu type.

I also believe breeding should be connected to education and the sharing of knowledge. This is why Prodigus Canis is being developed as an Institute dedicated to preservation, history, genetics, breed standards, and responsible breeding.

My purpose can be summarized in one sentence:

To preserve the extraordinary in order to honor tradition.
